Josh was just such a person. There was also depth with his character as he faced the end of his obsession with Ryan. The story was so strong, I was pulled into it completely. I followed, desperately hoping Tyler might resolve some of his issues and hoping Josh would get his head out of his ass. There were moments of humor, moments of sadness, and moments of enjoyment. I love Seth Meyers so that cameo was great. Interestingly, there are other point of view characters. Finally, there was Patrick. Poor Patrick. I really want him to get a happy ending. Michael Ferraiuolo narrated this story and he was a brilliant choice. He brought the story to life seamlessly and I love his voice. I always enjoy his performances and this one was no exception. Where do I even start? I was apprehensive when I saw this book is 19 hours. Will it hold my attention? This book captivated my attention.

The evolution of the MCs relationship was something to look out for. They fit so well together, two broken pieces but somehow, they go together just right. There are parts which were hard to listen, so take a break, but keep on keeping on. This story is rich. Michael Ferraiuolo was brilliant in this book. He gave each characters life. He voiced each character distinctly and brought out the emotions into a different level. This was a really great audiobook. I really enjoyed listening to it. Story: Absolutely brilliant story! It made me come to work late because hitting pause was a real challenge! So much emotions, amazing writing skills and to top it off, a story that packs a punch after punch. Alongside the delicious angst are amazing characters with such complex personalities! It felt like peeling off layer after layer, not only from the MCs, but the secondary characters as well.

Not one second of this book kept me bored. Not one! Narration: Michael Ferraiuolo did a brilliant job. The performance was absolutely perfect! This was a good story, and the narration was excellent. The reason I didn't rate it five stars is that there was just too much smut. Smut scenes always take me out of the story. One or two are fine, but there was quite a few in this, and the story would probably be quite a bit shorter without them. I like longer stories, I just wish it was more focused on plot and less on smut. This was such a great story. I fell in love with Tyler, such a snarky, bright young thing. All the while a hurt, young man lay underneath.

Josh, such a lovely man, with the patience of a saint and a glutton for punishment dealing with 2 Chadwick brothers and being roommates with a third one. This is a poignant story of hurt, self doubt and some mental health issues. These may sound heavy, and they are, but the story is told with dignity, love and humour, helping to make this a lovely and ultimately, HEA story. The narration was soooo good!! Michael Ferraiuolo did a magnificent job - Tyler had the right snark, irreverence; Josh, solid and dependable; Ryan - a bit 'holier- than-thou'. I could go on. The point is that each character had a distinct voice - awesome listen! I have nothing at all against Michael Ferraiuolo as a narrator [in fact he's narrated some of my fave audios], but even he must be getting fed up of announcing that he's wherever he is at whatever time and date it is before every single chapter it's exhausting!!

at least in the book you can ignore that part in every chapter. I said in my book review that the story was waay too long, and there's no better example of that fact than in this audio production. It's not Michael's fault, it's the story. Sorry Michael. an absolute whopper of a story. Much too long [but no skimming on my part], and I'm sure a decent editor would have chopped at least a couple of hundred pages from it, but for all that, it was very well written with minimal typos or niggles, and there were some really funny and touching lines…especially from Tyler. The story has two of my fave tropes…fake boyfriend and friends to lovers, although I have to be honest here and say that in common with some other reviewers [whose names I'm actually familiar with obviously], I was sorely tempted to abandon the read as it seemed to be taking forever and I was getting nowhere fast e.

it was a pedestrian speed romantic read. get some guidance about what to leave in and what to chop from an editor before your next epic tome or you know, just employ that editor to sort it for you. This is an excellent story with complex characters and a fake romance that becomes more real the more that Tyler and Josh get to know each other as adults since Tyler was only a teenager the last time they saw each other at the Lake. I only took off a star because I'm squeamish and this story involves cutting, which is fine, but there's one scene at the beginning from the book which involved too much blood for my liking, though once I got past that, the rest was captivating as I wanted to know more about why the guys are both so emotionally wounded. This is a slow burn, and there are ups and downs, but I was rooting for Tyler and Josh to make it in the end. Michael Ferraiuolo is one of my top ten favourite narrators and he does an excellent job of bringing the story to life, which is why I was able to stay engaged with the story in spite of feeling slightly squeamish to start with when an accident happens involving Tyler, Josh and the dock of the family lake house.

Highly recommended for lovers of secret crush, fake relationship stories. This is an incredible story. It is full of flawed, dysfunctional people, secrets, trauma, abuse, sexual tension, and love. Some moments are laugh out loud funny, others are heart-wrenchingly painful. Tyler's description of what happened to him at the gay conversion camp is particularly heinous. However, through it all, Tyler and Josh help each other heal from past wounds and prior lovers. It's a long road, but well worth the journey. I absolutely loved the ending! The narration is fantastic, with distinct voices for each character and wonderful expression of emotion. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook through the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review. This is simply due to the fact that I am old, have lived my own drama and don't want to read about the same types of drama in my books or movies or TV series.

I want the rest of my days filled with sMMexy men loving other sMMexy men, unicorns, rainbows, butterflies, and other fluffy things. I knew I could trust Van Dorn to take me on a crazy wild journey, but I was still apprehensive because of the trigger warnings hitting too close to home and again, I have lived my own drama. What sets this book apart and above most in its genre is the character authenticity and transparency. Our MC, Tyler for example is seen by his family as spoiled, crass, attention seeking at the best of times, and attention seeking to the detriment of his health at the worst. However, these same family members protect, work for and with Tyler always striving to show they care. These characteristics are things many of us see in our own family dynamics. We might not like each other, and sometimes the dislike may even mimic hate.

But, at our base level, there is always a piece no matter how small that still loves our family. Underneath all the family push and pull are secrets. Secrets that are years in the making and within the Chadwick family these secrets effect everyone to some degree, but no one is more effected by all these secrets than Tyler. After a chance meeting, turned into an almost drowning, Tyler and his long time crush who FYI used to secretly date his brother, Josh gets roped into pretending to be Tyler's doting boyfriend. Now, do not think for a second this is a typical "fake boyfriend" trope. Do that, and you will be sorely disappointed. It is just one of the MANY themes that are present in this spectacular story.

Now that Tyler has his fake BF, Josh to help combat the sex tape scandal forgot to mention that, sorry everything should be hunky dory. Alas, this is an epic family drama not some pretentious novella, so there is more so much more. There are angry and homophobic parents who rage, then shame, then guilt, then rage some more. There are siblings who believe they know best and meddle any chance they get. Best friends who call or text at three a. just to make sure you are okay and haven't put anyone in a strangle hold, or jumped off the dock with rocks in your pockets. If that weren't enough, there's paparazzi everywhere snapping photos, yelling absurd questions just to get a rise, and tabloids writing stories so far from the truth it sounds more appealing to believe it than what's actually happening.

Nasty internet memes made from the sex tape, more homophobic slurs spread across the world wide web and the side of Tyler's house. Prank calls at two a. and a neurotic fake boyfriend who has cleaning frenzies when he is stressed. And a crazy ex who may still be stalking Tyler and upping the ante to things like slashed tires, and screaming at Josh that, "Tyler belongs to him! Josh and Tyler have the perfect blend of calm and frantic, messy and spotless that somehow brings balance to their chaotic world. Even when doubts rise, they push through, they don't run or show cowardice regarding who they are to each other in their moments together. They stick together and friendship turns to something more.

Much more. If you haven't been able to tell let me say plainly, I absolutely loved this audiobook! In my opinion an audio book wins or loses its audience solely based on the narration. If a narrator lacks spirit, and inflection it will show. Michael Ferraiuolo was superb in his role as narrator. Each character had a voice unique to their personality I loved Josh's mom's accent! Even each thought was in the character's voice and not the narrator's actual voice. Bravo, Sir! I am not ashamed to say, I am a survivor! This book spoke to me on so many levels. So, be mindful of the triggers, and if you feel brave this is a journey you won't regret! I really enjoyed this book. The sexy times were very hot.

The relationship's evolution was very satisfying. There are some major trigger warnings so be sure to check that out first. Narration by Michael Ferraiuolo was perfect as usual. I listened to the audible read and was blown away by the story and the narration. Tyler and Josh's love was taboo. After all, we do have a younger brother who felt in love with his older brother 's first love. I just had to know if this was fair to the older brother, "Ryan," and if the love between Josh and Tyler would work. And I have to say YES, to all of the above.

I so highly recommend their story. You will not be disappointed. Now, I'm on to Ryan's story. Lawd knows he need love too. Tyler and Josh gave me all the feels!! They were perfect together This book had angst, drama and so much going on. I couldn't for the life of me put this down. Michael Ferraiuolo performed an amazing audio delivery and narration. This was an amazing first book in the series. I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series. OCD, abuse, sexual assault, cutting, gasslighting and violence all are talked about AND happen in this story. Do not undertake this book lightly. Usually, a book this heavy either feels hollow or like glorification of abuse. Copy and paste this code into your Wikipedia page. Need help? Damage Control Lynn Van Dorn. Damage Control × Close. No rating. This one just wasn't holding my attention. The story, from what i read, looked set to be predictable and I didn't connect with any of the characters. It's got brilliant reviews, but didn't work for me. the writing was pretty great overall. the angst!! the family drama!! it was a little bit like a soap opera, but i could not look away. i binged the whole pages in basically one sitting like it was nothing i do think the whopping page count was unnecessary though. i absolutely loved their banter and all the glimpses of their mutual dark humour.

i could sincerely feel the depth of their feelings for each other, and i couldn't help but fangirl over all of their sweet moments. i even loved it when they fought, and they fought a lot lmao. lots of sensitive topics, so make sure to read the trigger warnings if you have any. it was still an amazing book overall and i am glad i finally read it. i have high hopes. time to binge yet another book, bye bye! So, I dare. I'll make an exception for this book: 1. THERE ARE SO MANY 5 stars reviews that my lonely rating won't spoil things. Just consider it as a different opinioin. It is horrible I want to rate it and give it 0. NO FUCKING WAY. You have to pay me for it. Now I know there are not only FAKE NEWS. There are also FAKE REVIEWS. I suspect that Who am I to judge someone's taste?! This book is LONG. It has over pages. But it is not pages of plot. Long-winded became a different meaning. LONG-WINDED became a form.

It is Damage Control. Unappealing characters, looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong uninteresting dialogues, full of boring details, amateurish writing, SIMPLY AWFUL. I'm not going to read anything by this author again in my life. I was enjoying the banter between Josh and Tyler. I found myself rereading the dialogues that happened between these two. They were full of snark. Tyler was a very funny character, but on the inside, his life was full of sadness. My heart was crying for him throughout the story. But Tyler had a strong heart that could bear anything. I was very happy to see he got his HEA with the love of his life. Tyler was the bossy bottom. He and Josh had 10 years age gap, and that was really hot. I was so excited to see how Tyler was going to end up with his long-time crush, Josh. I liked all the likable side characters. Especially Purvi. She and Tyler had a great friendship. Their back and forth texting was really fun. In addition to that, there was this mysterious thing going on in the story.

I liked how everything unraveled by the end. Heartbreaking and beautiful I loved this book! My absolutely favorite is the next book in the series but this deserves the 5 stars. To everyone who dnf'd this book, give it another chance! It's so worth it. The scope is huge, and Van Dorn is building the series, so you've got to give her a chance to set everything in motion. It's huge cast, with a ton of juicy skeletons, and drama, and of course sex. Michael Ferraiuolo does a spectacular job with the audio edition of Damage Control. This isn't a bad book by any means, but it was just too damn angsty for me.

This book is hefty at plus pages, and it felt long. The MCs just couldn't get their shit together, and then there was all that imo unnecessary drama with Tyler's ex. Also, I loathed Ryan, Tyler's brother and Josh's former closeted boyfriend. Ryan barely apologized for using and hurting Josh. However, Tyler and Josh are complex, multi-faceted characters, and their relationships feels raw and real. That's what elevated this story for me. Well, that, and the gorgeous HEA. Jenni Lea. Snarktastic and heartwarming I loved this! Tyler and Josh have wormed their way into my pocket and into my heart.

This was snarktastic and funny and heartwarming and a little bit sad. I'm diving into book two right now. The Story Do you know what annoys me beyond measure? When characters who are selfish and assholes get written in a positive light and suffer no consequences for their behaviours. FUCK THAT NOISE! This book was incredible and absolutely brilliantly written. It's also snarky, passionate and painful.
